PUBLIC NOTICES & NONDISCRIMINATION STATEMENTS

PUBLIC NOTICE OF PARTICIPATION - TITLE I OF THE EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT (ESSA):  Pursuant to the Requirements of Title I of the “Every Student Succeeds Act,” (ESSA) of 2001, the public is herby notified that the South Central Nebraska Unified School District #5 Public Schools (SCNUSD#5), whose official address is 850 S. Nevada, PO Box 368, Nelson, Nebraska, has been approved for funding under Title 1 ESSA, for the express purpose of serving students with special needs in the areas of mathematics and reading/language arts to help insure that all children acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.  Julie Otero, whose official title is Superintendent, has been authorized by the Board of Education to serve as its representative for all matters concerning Title I ESSA for the 2011-2012 school year.

The public is further notified that a council composed of parents, teachers, and interested citizens may be established for the purpose of advising the school on matters relating to the Title I program.  Under the regulations the school must host an annual meeting open to all parents of eligible students.

Persons interested in any aspect of the Title I ESSA program including but not limited to the application and budget, evaluation procedures, the needs assessment, prior applications, budgets and complaint procedures or other information and data concerning Title I which is not subject to the Family Rights and Privacy Act are requested to contact the Office of the Superintendent, SCNUSD#5 Public Schools, 30671 Highway 14, Fairfield, Nebraska. 

PARENT NOTIFICATION OF TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: On January 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the “Every Student Succeeds” Act (ESSA). ESSA is designed to improve student achievement by increasing federal involvement in public education both at the state and local level. Under ESSA, school districts that receive Title 1 funding are now required to inform parents they have the a right to know the professional qualifications of their child(rent)’s teacher(s). Therefore, parents of the Sandy Creek Schools may now request to know the qualifications of the child’s teacher(s). As a parent if you would like to receive specific teaching credential information about your child’s teacher(s), please contact your school’s building principle at 402-726-2151 of 402-726-3561. Please give the building principle at least 5 school days to contact you with information regarding the teaching credentials of your child’s teacher(s). In addition, under ESSA the school district is required to let parents know when teachers who don’t fit the ESSA’s definition of “highly qualified” teach their children for four or more consecutive weeks.
